All our trainers have been promoted through our business from builds technician, technical support, on-site engineers and trainers. Training is less disruptive and cancelled sessions reduced, as technical issues can be addressed straight away by trainers instead of being signposted.

I am John-Michael Farrar, I have been working for Remtek since I started in Builds, (installing software onto student computers, so that the student may just open the computer and it is ready to go!) This helped be get to know the programs briefly on what they can do and all the types of software that comes with DSA equipment.
From there, I went into Tech Support fixing computers and printers for both hardware and software issues, this gave be the technical background on how to fix any problems/issues that is thrown my way.
After being in Tech Support I was trusted to be a Set-up Engineer, going out to students and setting up their equipment whilst giving them an orientation on the software so the student felt comfortable getting started with the equipment.
Whilst being a Set-up Engineer I was invited to go on various Training courses for the software, learning about every way, shape or form these programs can help students with disabilities/ learning difficulties better their studies.
Before I knew it, I became an Assistive Technology Trainer teaching students on how to use the software and this is where I had my “this is where I belong” moment. Having Dyslexia myself, I think, has given me the edge to be able to relate to my students and show them what may work best for them.
Each session I tailor to the student, so each experience is unique, fun and fulfilling. For one student I may focus on time management, whereas another student may need to focus on structure. One student may need a set plan on what we are doing for every single session, whereas another student would prefer to ‘play things by ear’.
