Ross Glasgow

All our trainers have been promoted through our business from builds technician, technical support, on-site engineers and trainers. Training is less disruptive and cancelled sessions reduced, as technical issues can be addressed straight away by trainers instead of being signposted.

Profile

I’m Ross, currently an Assistive Software Trainer for Remtek Systems. I started off my journey at Remtek in the builds department; where we would get the new laptops all set up with the software and make sure they’re all updated. I then moved to technical support to deal with students’ technical issues and queries. Having a good knowledge about the assistive software at this moment in time, I then further gained knowledge and student interaction by becoming an on-site set up engineer, setting up student equipment at their home or halls of residence. I found out just how much the equipment meant to the students. And finally, the position for Assistive Software Trainer become available and that’s what I have been doing since roughly 2018. I am fully certified in all of the DSA supplied assistive software and get all of the relevant training courses for any new and updated software.

A training session is very unique to each student, we tailor our sessions around an individual student. I will contact the student the night before with instructions on how to access the meeting. On the session itself, we will start off with a quick chat about what the training sessions will entail, get to know each other and find out how I can help the student the most. This can include finding out what the student struggles with and how we can improve their experience. I will then ask the student what software they would like to start learning so they can get started straight away. We will book further sessions for other software’s in this session too.

Having been a trainer now for upwards of 4 years, I very much enjoy helping students with their studies and giving them a chance to better their educational journey. It is very rewarding to know that students will be finding their university experience a lot more enjoyable because of the assistive software. We ask students for some feedback so we can improve our service and ensure the student is getting the very best out of the training sessions. Here is some of the feedback that I have received:

  • Ross is a fantastic trainer! I found him to be supportive and very patient. He answered any queries that I had, ensuring that I understood, before we moved on to the next point. He has helped me to feel confident in my ability to use this software. Thank you so much! – Annette Hyams
  • Ross has been friendly and helpful and makes the session interactive and easy to follow. Its been super easy to pick up and he’s been really patient with me as well. I am really enjoying the sessions and Ross clearly knows the software really well. Its been really helpful so far and I would recommend to anyone needing training in assistive software. – Emma Wright
  • Very quick to get sessions booked. Ross, who did my training, was very helpful. He was able to cater for a variety of learning needs and apply to what is required in the university course. He went beyond the basic software that I had and made lots of useful suggestions. – Lana Brotherick
